After the Recent Murders at the University of Idaho, the Police Have Issued a Warning About an Ongoing Danger

Four University of Idaho students were killed over the weekend by an unidentified perpetrator, and now Idaho police are warning that Moscow may be under threat. In a press conference on Wednesday, Moscow Police Chief James Fry advised citizens to exercise caution in the wake of the horrific killings.

We cannot claim that the community is not under attack, Fry added. “Please remain alert at all times, report any suspicious activities, and keep vigilant.” Police, according to Fry, are actively investigating the crime but do not currently know anything about the culprit or the murder weapon.

The four University of Idaho students were discovered dead inside a home on Sunday afternoon, but the Moscow Police Department initially provided little information about them, other than to say they were probably slain with an “edged” weapon in a targeted attack by an unidentified assailant.

The relatives of the four college students criticized the local police department conducting the investigation before the news conference on Wednesday for not providing enough details about the case. Also unclear was the police’s first statement that there was no persistent threat to the neighborhood while the perpetrator was still at large.

According to a statement given to Fox News by Jim Chapin, the father of 20-year-old University of Idaho student Ethan Chapin, the absence of information “feeds false tales and innuendo in the press and social media.”

Jim Chapin added, “The silence just deepens the pain of our family over the murder of our son. “For Ethan and his three beloved friends killed in Moscow, Idaho, and for all of our families, I implore the government to speak the truth, reveal what they know, catch the killer, and safeguard the larger community.”

The victim’s sister, Alivea Goncalves, 21, told NBC station KHQ that until the offender was apprehended, there was “no way” police could state with “any amount of certainty” the incident was isolated. Someone purposefully carried out this action. Not once, twice, or even three times, but four times,” she emphasized. There is nothing scarier than that, in my opinion.

According to police identification, the additional victims in the case are 20-year-old Xana Kernodle and 21-year-old Madison Mogen. Police reported that on the Saturday night before the attack, Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves were at a downtown pub, while Ethan Chapin and Kerndole were at a party on campus.

Finally, all four students went back to their homes. According to authorities, the attack took place sometime early on Sunday morning. Police don’t think the house was broken into forcibly. The victims are undergoing autopsies, which could be completed by Wednesday night.

At the news conference on Wednesday, university president Scott Green stated that the “weeks ahead” will be difficult for the campus community. He said, adopting the nickname for the university, “We will support each other while we grieve and we will go through this together as the Vandal family.
