Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland described the situation as “sad,”, especially over the holiday season. Every time this occurs, it is a sad scenario, but it appears to be an upward trend.
Domestic violence homicides decreased statewide in 2021, according to a recent report from the Texas Council on Family Violence, but increased in Harris County. There were 37 homicides involving domestic violence in 2020. There were 46 last year, which was the most in the state.
