Disneyland Announces Its First-ever Pride Nite

Just hours after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, with whom Disney has been at odds for months, threatened to hike taxes, construct a rival theme park, or construct a state jail next to Disney World in Orlando, Disneyland in California launched its first-ever “After Dark: Pride Night” event.

Following a press conference when DeSantis criticized Disney for “circumventing” Florida’s efforts to retake control of the autonomous region surrounding its Orlando theme park, Disney tweeted on Monday to announce the special event.

DeSantis wanted to form a board to run the special taxing district, but he claimed Disney had “negotiated with themselves” to maintain power and their autonomy, which has given the firm significant tax and other benefits.

Some people interpret the tweet announcing the Disneyland event as a dig at DeSantis because the two have lately engaged in heated debate, especially after the governor of Florida signed a bill banning discussion of s*x and gender identity among young children in public places of learning.
