And, like all good rivalries, there was some mutual adoration going on all along. In a playful encounter that was equal parts charming, awkward, and ultimately sincere, the leaving White House Press Secretary and her No. 1 gadfly over the past year, the White House correspondent from Fox News, laid a reconciliatory tile on the mosaic of their complex relationship Thursday.
Psaki called on Doocy during her first daily briefing since the White House formally named her replacement, as she did hundreds of times before and will soon no more. “Thank you very much, Jen!” Doocy responded. “I’m sorry to see you leave!” “Are you?” she retorted, drawing a nice laugh from the audience.
“Yes, and you’ve been a great sport,” Doocy answered, refusing to take the bait.”I appreciate it,” Psaki remarked gratefully. “And so have you.”Psaki will leave the Biden administration on May 13 to begin a new job at MSNBC.
