Johnny Depp Dating British Lawyer Joelle: is She a Married Woman?
A new love interest. Us Weekly has learned that Johnny Depp is seeing the attorney Joelle Rich, who defended him in the libel action he filed against The Sun in the United Kingdom.
Who is Johnny Depp?
Johnny Depp, whose birth name is John Christopher Depp II, is a well-known American actor and singer who was born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky. He is well known for portraying Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Depp left high school at 16 to pursue a career in music. Most of his boyhood was spent in Florida, but he and his bandmates eventually moved to the West Coast to make their way into the music industry. When Depp was a struggling musician, Johnny married Lori Anne Allison, a makeup artist, in 1983. With the help of his buddy Nicolas Cage, Allison got Johnny Depp an audition with Wes Craven for his first film role as a teenager whose bed had been devoured in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). In the subsequent year, he separated from Allison.
Johnnie Depp’s Formative Years
In his early years, Depp continued to pursue his love of music by performing on acoustic guitar in films like Chocolat (2000) and the soundtrack of Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003). On top of that, he contributed guitar work to the Pogues and Oasis albums. He met French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis on the set of The Ninth Gate, and the two went on to have a long relationship and two children together.
The couple’s turbulent marriage made headlines when they tied the knot in 2015. Most notably, Heard claimed he had drug misuse problems and accused him of physically abusing her. After their divorce was finalized in 2016, Heard published an opinion piece in The Washington Post in which she called herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” In 2018, Depp was again labeled a “wife abuser” by the British tabloid The Sun. In 2020, after he had sued the tabloid for libel, the judge ruled against him, saying, “I acknowledge that Mr. Depp placed [Heard] in dread of her life.”
At this time, Depp filed a defamation suit against Heard over an article she wrote for the Post. When one of Depp’s attorneys referred to her alleged abuse as a “hoax,” she filed a countersuit, claiming that Depp had defamed her. In April of 2022, the trial was aired, and it quickly became a media circus, with the widespread interest shown on various social media platforms.
A jury sided with Depp in his complaint against Heard after hearing six weeks of testimony and concluding that Heard had acted with “actual malice” in the form of domestic violence. The judge reduced Depp’s judgment of $15 million in damages (compensatory and punitive) to $10.35 million. The jury upheld Heard’s defamation claim, but she lost on two additional counts and an appeal. For her trouble, she received $2,000,000 in punitive damages.
Is He Dating a Married Woman?
Insider: “Their chemistry is off the charts” “They’re serious. “They’re legit.”
Rich worked on Depp’s libel lawsuit against the U.K. publication in 2018, but she did not defend him in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard this year. She was in court to “support” the Oscar nominee.
Her presence wasn’t professional. The pair “discreetly” met at hotels during the early stages of their relationship, a source told Us.
Rich was married when she met Depp, but she’s divorcing. She has two children with her ex-spouse.
During his slander lawsuit against Heard, 36, rumors arose that he was dating one of his lawyers, Camille Vasquez. The 38-year-old Southwestern Law School graduate later called the stories “s*xist.”
“It’s unethical,” Vasquez told People in June. “It’s regrettable and frustrating, but it’s par for the course.” I wasn’t shocked.”
Depp sued Heard twice after their 2017 divorce. The Kentucky native sued The Sun in June 2018 after it called him a “wife abuser” in a Fantastic Beasts piece. The story highlighted Heard’s 2016 abuse charges before their breakup.
After delays from the coronavirus epidemic, the trial commenced in July 2020. The U.K.’s High Court of Justice found that The Sun’s piece was not defamatory four months later because Aquaman star’s abuse accusations were “basically accurate.”
Depp’s appeal was dismissed in March 2021. Rich told Deadline she “seriously questioned” the U.K. judge’s judgment and that her client was looking forward to “showing the complete, indisputable proof of the truth in the U.S. libel lawsuit against Ms. Heard, where she would have to offer full disclosure.”
The U.S. trial began in April, three years after Depp sued Heard over a 2018 op-ed she penned on domestic abuse. In June, a jury awarded the Edward Scissorhands actress $10.35 million in damages to her ex-husband. A jury awarded Heard $2 million in damages after finding that one of Depp’s attorneys defamed her.
Depp told Us after the judgment that he brought the case to uncover the truth, regardless of the outcome. “I owed my children and my supporters the truth. I’m relieved to have done it.”
