Latto Beats Kodak Black to a Bet Award. His Reaction Was Not at All Sexist
Kodak Black came in second place at this year’s BET Awards for Song of the Year, which was won by Latto for “Big Energy.” His response demonstrated a high level of maturity. At this point, it is not surprising in the least to hear something sexist from Kodak Black.
However, there are times when the things he says cause us to pause and consider, and we find ourselves saying things like, “That ain’t the hot take you think it is, brother.” An example of this would be suggesting that a fellow female artist received an award just due to the fact that she is a woman.
At this year’s BET Awards, Black came in second place to Latto’s “Big Energy,” which won the award for Song of the Year. Black went online and not only called Latto some choice names but also claimed that she won the award because she is a woman. Rather than accepting the loss graciously and saving us all the pain, Black went online and did both of these things.
On Wednesday, during a live Instagram broadcast, Black appeared to make fun of Latto‘s stage name by using the terms “frappuccino, cappuccino.” She then on to declare that her victory was a diversity check.
“Then I look at the Instagram like, ‘What the heck was that shawty blocking me for?’ They are most likely shouting at BET, telling them to stop giving him that shite. I informed you several weeks ago. Watch as they’re going to have some fun with me and then hand it over to frappuccino,” he added.
Even after Latto responded to Black’s outburst by subtweeting it, Black did not back down from his position and continued his tirade. In a series of tweets, he claimed that while he was “okay” with women’s empowerment (sure, Jan), the prize should have gone to anyone other than “that hateful ass mutt.” He was alluding to Latto when he said “hating ass mutt.”
