The development of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has so far been an unusual one. The movie appeared to be one of the first projects to be released as part of Marvel Phase 4, but everything fell apart when James Gunn lost the directing gig due to offensive Tweets he wrote almost ten years ago.

After the whole event, the director opted to join the DC Extended Universe, agreeing to write and direct The Suicide Squad. However, now that Gunn has been reinstated and is now working on the third installment of his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, things seem to be basically back on track.

The tale of THIS version of the Guardians team, which consists of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Mantis, will come to an end in the next Guardians sequel, according to James Gunn (Pom Klementieff). Although it’s unclear how the story will end, it would be an understatement to say that we are quite excited by the most recent project advances.
