Rupert Murdoch, 92, and Ann Lesley Smith Call Off Their Engagement

Following weeks of the announcement, media magnate Rupert Murdoch and ex-police chaplain Ann Lesley Smith abruptly called off their engagement, according to Vanity Fair. Less than a month ago, the 92-year-old made plans to marry Ann Lesley Smith officially by informing his own newspaper, the New York Post, that they would wed and spend “the second half of our lives together.”

Unnamed individuals close to Murdoch were cited by the media outlet as saying that the wedding’s plans were abruptly scrapped. According to one insider cited by the magazine, Murdoch had grown uneasy with 66-year-old Smith’s religious beliefs. A year after Murdoch’s divorce from his fourth wife, model Jerry Hall, the ceremony was set for the summer.

He was excited about the connection last month. According to Mr. Murdoch, “I was really anxious. Although I hated it, I knew this would be my last relationship. It ought to be. I’m content. They first connected during a gathering he hosted at his California winery the previous year.
