On Monday night, information about the Virginia congressman’s passing was made public. “We are all grieved at the departure of our employer and friend, Congressman Donald McEachin,” said McEachin’s chief of staff Tara Rountree.

Bobby Scott, a congressman from Virginia, also issued a statement in which he expressed his sorrow over the passing of his friend and colleague. In a statement, he said that Donald “was a persistent champion for all Virginians and our Commonwealth during his lifetime of public service in the Virginia House of Delegates, the Virginia Senate, and the U.S. House of Representatives.
He grew up in the region that he would later represent in the Virginia General Assembly and the US Congress. His parents were Army veterans and public school teachers. Only a few days prior to his passing, it was disclosed in a news release that McEachin was in charge of the Virginia Democratic delegation’s efforts to convince the General Assembly to “enshrine the right to an abortion in the Virginia Constitution.”
