After a Police Shooting in Mesa, One Officer Was Injured and Another Was Taken into Custody

Following a shooting involving Mesa police officers overnight, one suspect is in custody, and one of the officers was sent to the hospital. The event happened close to Mesa Drive and Broadway Road. According to Mesa Police Department authorities, the incident started at 11 p.m. on Thursday when officers tried to pull over a driver for a minor traffic infraction near Hobson and Broadway. Officers lost sight of the car as the driver sped off and refused to stop.

The suspect’s car was turning when it struck the officers who were still in the vicinity. The suspect vehicle’s driver kept going and ran into a parked car that had a person inside. According to police, the driver began to reverse when the cops got out of the vehicle. The suspect was shot at by both police using their service guns, and he once more drove away in his car.

Later, the car was located without a driver, and the suspect was discovered in another car. Before one of the cops was able to apprehend the man, he made a third attempt to flee as they drew near. According to the police, the suspect is Joaquin Santiago Orozco, age 23. Although he was involved in the incident, he only sustained minor wounds.

According to police, one of the officers involved in the incident was transported to the hospital for treatment after suffering a head injury. The policeman was later let go. There were no other recorded injuries. According to the police, Orozco was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, aggravated DUI, evading arrest, endangering others, fleeing without permission, and careless driving.
