Man Accused of Brutally Stabbing a Teenager and Injuring Four Others in the Apple River Stabbing!
According to court documents, the guy accused of a stabbing that resulted in the death of a youngster and the injuries of four other people has been charged with murder.
Isaac Schuman, 17, of Stillwater, Minnesota, died on Saturday afternoon. Nicolae Miu, 52, of Prior Lake, Minnesota, is accused of killing him on one count of first-degree intentional homicide and of attempting to kill him on four further occasions.
The condition of the four injured people, a 24-year-old lady from Burnsville, Minnesota, two 20- and 22-year-old men from Luck, Wisconsin, and a 22-year-old guy from Elk River, Minnesota, is stable. According to a news release issued by officials on Sunday, they have stab wounds to their torsos and chests that range in severity from serious to critical.
On Monday afternoon, Miu virtually appeared in court for the first time, and the judge set his bail at $1 million cash. He was informed that due to his financial situation, he is ineligible for public law and that, if found guilty of the most serious crime, he faced life in jail.
A preliminary hearing for Miu, who has claimed self-defence, is scheduled for August 12 at 10 a.m.

Apple River stabbing charges
The criminal complaint against Miu describes the stabbing that allegedly took place on the Apple River at the sunrise bridge in Somerset, Wisconsin after Miu was questioned by tubers who claimed he was acting suspiciously while he was supposedly hunting for a friend’s cellphone in the river. He allegedly hit a woman in the left side of her face before punching Miu, which exacerbated the situation and ultimately resulted in the stabbing.
The criminal complaint said that witnesses started phoning 911 at 3:47 pm on July 30 and that they reported there may have been four or five victims with injuries to the mid to upper torso, one of them had “intestines hanging from their body.”
One victim was discovered unresponsive and with a puncture wound in his upper belly close to his left breast. This victim was later identified as Schuman. Charges stated that he was declared dead at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater.
Injuries to additional victims included a slash wound to the abdomen that exposed internal organs, a stab wound to the lower left abdomen, a laceration on the stomach, a puncture wound to the upper left thorax, and a stab wound to the upper left side abdomen in the fifth victim.
When the police came, they discovered the suspect—later identified as Miu—had fled upriver and gone into the western bank woods. At 4:45 in the afternoon, a witness reported seeing the suspect at Prospect Park, downriver. At Somerset’s Rivers Edge Campground, he was held captive. According to the charges, he was there with other buddies and his wife.
According to Miu’s wife, she and Miu arrived at the campground at 10:45 on Saturday morning to float down the river. The complaint claims that she claimed her husband put on SCUBA gear and separated from the party to search for a friend’s phone that had been dropped in the river close to the bridge. When he went out seeking again, other men emerged from their tubes and began assaulting him. When she realised this, she called to their companions, and two of them immediately ran toward the altercation.
She heard yelling and then noticed Miu and her two companions walking away while remarking that she had missed the incident, according to the accusations. When they approached Miu, he was already on his way back, so she said the two buddies weren’t involved.
Miu informed his wife that he had a knife in his pocket and that “those people seized it from him,” according to accusations. Miu also allegedly told her that the group dubbed him a paedophile and attacked him.
According to the lawsuit, witnesses saw a man—later identified as Miu—bothering some young people in tubes while they were shouting for help from those floating downstream. Then, a group of individuals occupied the space in front of Miu, requesting that he depart.
According to witnesses, Miu slapped or struck a female who was in the group confronting him. After that, the complaint claims, a man attacked Miu, forcing him to fall into the river. Then, according to witnesses, Miu started attacking several individuals who were close to him with a 3-inch folding knife.
According to the complaint, police discovered the knife a short way upstream along the river’s west bank. The victims’ belongings and tubes, one of which looked to be linked with bloody flesh, were discovered tied together.
According to the complaint, investigators also acquired video of the incident. The gang cries at Miu to run away as the footage shows him carrying goggles with a snorkel hooked up to them and grabbing onto their tubes. Miu then circles the tubes as if in search of something before turning away from the tubing party. After saying something to the tubers, he turns around and heads back toward the Highway 35 bridge.
Charges state that at that point in the video, Miu can be seen being surrounded by individuals who are calling for him to leave. He then moved in the direction of a woman who was requesting that he leave. People can be heard saying he was “searching for little girls” in the footage. A larger group then moved closer to the spot, shouting at Miu while at least one person touched his shoulder.
Later on in the video, Wiu appears to be confronted by two women, at which point he pulls his knife. The video pans away, and a crowd gathers around Miu as chaos breaks out, according to the lawsuit. Miu is then slapped with an open palm before falling back into the water. He then stands up again before a man wearing yellow swimming trunks pushes him back. The individual wearing the yellow swimming trunks pushes him once again as he begins to emerge from the water holding his knife. Miu then stabs him in the abdomen at that point.
Then, as at least one person touches his back, the video shows Miu making motions similar to stabbing others, according to the allegations.
Investigators were told by witnesses that Miu was acting “sketchily.”
Miu claims self-defence in Apple River stabbing
Miu, a mechanical engineer employed by Ritchie Engineering, allegedly asserted his right to self-defence by claiming that numerous individuals had attacked him, hit him, and been on top of him but that “I don’t remember anything after that” and “everything happened so fast.”
Miu admitted to being “very afraid” for his safety and unsure of what the river dwellers would do to him, stating that they called him a “kid molester.” He recalled warning the group that they shouldn’t be drinking alcohol if they were minors.
He claimed he was assisting a friend who had misplaced their phone when he asked a group of tubers who appeared to have found something if they had also found a phone, according to the accusations. When he was using a snorkel, the group “came at me” and started calling him insulting names.
According to the complaint, he claimed the group of tubers removed his snorkel and goggles and dumped them in the river. He also recalled that someone tried to pull down his swim trunks. He then “grabbed onto” the child who was attempting to pull up his shorts and discovered the child was carrying a knife. He also spotted another person brandishing a knife.
According to the allegations, he grabbed a knife from one person and began swinging it as he tried to escape the situation, according to Miu. He claimed that the tubers were around him and coming at him, striking and hitting him.
Even though he claimed to have a knife when he got to the Apple River and that he used it to cut the rope connecting their tubes, he either handed it to someone else or left it in his car.
The charges claimed that Miu expressed regret for how the encounter turned out.
Isaac Schuman killed in Apple River stabbing
On Saturday, Schuman, a 17-year-old Stillwater resident, died. According to a statement from his family:
“Family members and friends of Isaac Schuman gathered last night in Stillwater on the 14th fairway of Oak Glen Golf Club and released several lit candles in his honour. Just as the rain had ceased, a stunning rainbow rose in the eastern sky over Wisconsin, seemingly letting the group know that Isaac was fine and that he loved them.
Isaac stood out among young people. A member of the Stillwater High School Honor Roll, he is also a successful business owner with a vehicle and boat polishing company that is expanding quickly. With an eye toward the future, he intends to study electrical engineering after his senior year at Stillwater.
Also newly bitten by the golf bug, Isaac spent some of the proceeds from his business on lessons, new clubs, and serious game improvement. In the spring, he was eager to try out for the golf team. The cruel and brutal death of our son, brother, nephew, and friend has left us completely speechless. We appreciate your prayers and your concern for Isaac and the family, and we continue to find solace in the tremendous support we have received from our Stillwater neighbours.”
How law enforcement and EMS responded
Around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to St. Croix County Sheriff Scott Knudson, people began calling 911 to report the stabbings. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered that five individuals had been hurt, and the suspect had already left the scene, which was located by milepost nine on Highway 3564, close to Sunrise Bridge and the site where Sunrise Park once stood.
Deputies started providing first aid and evacuated the victims with assistance from a group of tubers who were on the river. Two people were evacuated to Regions Hospital, according to Knudson, while the others were transported there by ambulance. The 17-year-old was transported by paramedics to Lakeview Hospital, where he was later declared dead.
Deputies captured the man about an hour and a half after the incident started after witnesses helped them find him after he had gone approximately three-quarters of a mile upstream, according to Knudson.

Knudson responded when asked to describe the scene: “Chaotic. Scary. Anyone who saw this, I’m certain, won’t soon forget it. Thus, it is tragic.”
Investigators are still looking for the knife the suspect is believed to have used, according to Knudson. Late on Saturday afternoon, four deputies were seen wading into the lake while being followed by a police dog on camera from a television chopper. Another team of officers searched further downstream, sifting through dense grass and tyres that had been abandoned along the riverside as a police drone buzzed overhead.
Resident recalls helping distraught father
Artist and musician Kat Fenton have been a resident of the neighbourhood for 25 years. The incident was close to her family’s house at Sunside Part. She was in her driveway on a Saturday when she noticed a car speeding down the street. She motioned for the car to stop, and he did. She then saw that he was crying and had blood on his shirt.
He revealed to her that one of the survivors who had been flown to Regions Hospital was his son, who had been stabbed. She climbed into the backseat and drove him to the area where law enforcement was assembled close to the incident.
“I was aware that I had to assist him. I entered at that time, touched his arm, and said nothing more. I will help you get through this. I’ll. I’ll demonstrate where you must go “She spoke.
She couldn’t believe it happened beside the river, where people frequently went to cool down and enjoy the summertime.
“This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. This is unacceptable. Simply put, people come here to have fun “She spoke.
