When Does The NBA Season Start 2023-24?

The NBA revealed its complete game schedule and broadcast schedules for TNT, ESPN, ABC, NBA TV, and ESPN Radio for the 2023-24 regular season on August 15, 2023. Attached are the day-by-day and team-by-team schedules.

The 78th NBA regular season began on October 24, 2023, and will conclude on April 14, 2024. The 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament will run from Tuesday, April 16 to Friday, April 19, with the 2024 NBA Playoffs presented by Google Pixel kicking off on Saturday, April 20. The first game of the 2024 NBA Finals, sponsored by YouTube TV, will take place on Thursday, June 6.

The regular-season schedule includes set dates and opponents for 80 of each team’s 82 games and two with unknown dates and opponents. The two games for each team will be determined by the results of Group Play games in the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament, which will be played the week of December 4. On August 15, the Group Play game schedule (November 3-28) was announced.

Kia NBA Tip-Off 2023

As part of Kia NBA Tip-Off 2023, the first five days of the 2023-24 NBA regular season (Oct. 24-28) will include ten nationally televised games, including two doubleheaders on TNT and ESPN and one on NBA TV.

These games will consist of 14 teams, three rematches of the 2023 NBA Playoffs, and a lineup that provides for 17 NBA All-Star picks from last season and seven Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award winners. The regular season began on Tuesday, October 24, with a doubleheader on TNT, marking Warner Bros.

Discovery Sports’ 40th consecutive year of NBA coverage. The defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets will receive their title ring in the opening game before playing the Los Angeles Lakers in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals (7:30 p.m. ET).

The Phoenix Suns play the Golden State Warriors in the second game (10 p.m. ET), with Phoenix’s three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal and Golden State’s 12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul making their regular season debuts. New teams arrive, and Paul is pitted against the squad he played for the previous three seasons.

On Wednesday, October 25, ESPN will launch its 22nd consecutive season of NBA coverage with a doubleheader, beginning with the Boston Celtics hosting the New York Knicks (7 p.m. ET) in an Eastern Conference Finals game.

Last season, they reached the Eastern Conference Semifinals. In the second game (9:30 p.m. ET), the San Antonio Spurs will face the Dallas Mavericks, marking the NBA regular season debut of San Antonio’s 2023 first-round pick Victor Wambanyama.

On Thursday, October 26, TNT’s doubleheader will feature intraconference battles between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers (7:30 p.m. ET) and the Suns and the Lakers in Los Angeles (10 p.m. ET).

On Friday, October 27, ESPN will broadcast a doubleheader featuring the Miami Heat taking on the Boston Celtics (7:30 p.m. ET) and the Warriors taking on the Sacramento Kings (10 p.m. ET) — a seven-game sweep in last season’s Eastern Conference. The playoff series, the Conference Finals, and the Western Conference First Round will be rematched.

The Knicks visit the New Orleans Pelicans (7 p.m. ET), and the Suns host the Utah Jazz (10 p.m. ET) to kick off the new season on NBA TV on Saturday, October 28.

Christmas Day

For the 16th year in a row, the NBA will broadcast five games on Christmas Day (Monday, December 25), with each game airing on ABC or ESPN. On Christmas Day, the Bucks will face the Knicks in New York (noon ET) in the 76th edition of the NBA.

The following two games will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN. The two most recent Larry O’Brien Trophy winners will square off when the 2022 NBA champion Warriors meet the 2023 NBA champion Nuggets (2:30 p.m. ET). Following that, the Lakers will host the Celtics (5 p.m. ET) for the first time in 15 years on Christmas Day.

The 76ers will play the Heat in Miami (8 p.m. ET), and the Mavericks will play the Suns in Phoenix (10:30 p.m. ET) to round out the Christmas Day lineup.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

On Monday, January 15, the NBA will honour the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of its most important traditions.

Four nationally televised games will be part of the festivity. The Atlanta Hawks will face the Spurs (3:30 p.m. ET), and the Grizzlies will face the Warriors (6 p.m. ET) in a TNT  doubleheader, as Atlanta and Memphis continue to host games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. NBA TV will broadcast two games: the Houston Rockets vs. the Philadelphia 76ers (1 p.m. ET) and the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. the Los Angeles Lakers (10:30 p.m. ET).

NBA Rivals Week

Classic and emerging team and player rivalries will take centre stage during January’s second annual NBA Rivals Week. Rivalries will be the focus of all 11 nationally televised games from Tuesday, January 23, to Saturday, January 27, across four networks (TNT, ESPN, ABC, and NBA TV).

NBA Rivals Week will conclude on January 27 with an ABC tripleheader featuring rematches of the 2023 Conference Semifinals between the Heat and Knicks in New York (3 p.m. ET) and the Lakers and Warriors in San Francisco (8:30 p.m. ET).

Between those two games, reigning Kia NBA MVP Joel Embiid and the 76ers will travel to Denver to face two-time Kia NBA MVP Nikola Joki and the Nuggets (5:30 p.m. ET) in a showdown of centres who have finished in the top two in MVP voting in each of the last three seasons.

Election Day

No NBA games have been scheduled on Election Day (Tuesday, November 7) for the second consecutive season. The league encourages fans and the greater NBA community to plan to vote and engage in the civic process. The NBA will offer vital materials from voting groups as part of this program and promote the civic engagement activity of teams in respective markets.

The final day of the regular season

On the final day of the regular season (Sunday, April 14), all 30 teams will compete. To ensure competitive fairness, the seven Eastern Conference games will begin at 1 p.m. ET, while the seven Western Conference games and one cross-conference match will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET. ESPN will broadcast a doubleheader, with the pairings to be announced later.

The NBA Global Games

Both Global Games will be broadcast on NBA TV during the 2023-24 regular season. The Hawks will face the Orlando Magic in The NBA Mexico City Game 2023 on Thursday, November 9, at 9:30 p.m. ET at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The Brooklyn Nets will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in The NBA Paris Game 2024 on Thursday, January 11, at 2 p.m. ET at the Accor Arena in Paris.

NBA In-Season Tournament

Basketball In-Season Tournament Group All 30 teams will play on Tuesdays and Fridays in November, with TNT, ESPN, and NBA TV combining to broadcast 16 games.

The Knockout Rounds will feature single-elimination games in the Quarterfinals (Monday, December 4 and Tuesday, December 5), Semifinals (Thursday, December 7), and Championship (Saturday, December 9). The Knockout Rounds’ national broadcast schedule will be confirmed later.
