Norman Milton Lear is an American film and television producer, screenwriter, and television writer. He is responsible for producing, writing, creating, or developing over one hundred television shows. The 27th of July, 1922 found Norman Lear being brought into the world in New Haven, Connecticut. While his father’s family is originally from Russia, his mother’s family is from Ukraine.

The sitcoms that brought Norman Lear his popularity in the 1970s were All in the Family, Maude, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, and Good Times. He also created and produced Sanford and Son. In addition, he is the recipient of numerous honors and prizes, such as the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and five Emmys.
